![]() not sure if it's down to oscillators or filters, but it wasn't like every synth sounded the exact same either. I think I know what you mean, after skipping through the synths sequentially (including the xils lab polyKB which I'm also demoing) I did notice some similar timbres, I would even say verging on the identical. Polyslax, regarding stuff sounding 'samey'. sounds are nice, but if I can't get past the UI it's a non-starter. Some nice cs80 presets showing off what it can sound like, but looks like a bollox to program - this and the moog modular needs more time and attention to evaluate. The arp especially is living up to my hopes. ![]() ![]() they all sound good, but the arp2600 & prophet V are closer to exceptional than the other two I tried, IMO. Well, I've been testing them over the last hour or so. ![]() Now if they'd only put the original VS arpeggiator in it, and give us something like Waverider (an app for DOS PCs and the VS to create user waveforms), I'd be overjoyed.īottom line- I like them and use them quite a bit. The Prophet VS side comes the closest of all the Arturia stuff to nailing what they're supposed to emulate, which is to be expected. The update before v2 came out fixed that somewhat, and the v2 filters are much better than the original release. When I first bought this, I thought it was good with the Prophet-5 emulation, but the VS's filters were horrible. There's a couple things I use it for, though- usually sequenced mayhem. Moog Modular- this was the first Arturia synth I bought, and probably the one I use the least, to be honest. Once again, it doesn't sound exactly like the hardware, but it's definitely usable. I tried the 1.6 demo a few years later, and liked it enough to buy it. I was on the beta for the original CS80V, and while I thought it was a cool synth, it wasn't cutting it with me, especially the ring modulator. Plus, I don't need feeler gauges and masking tape to recreate my patches =)ĬS80V- I had a CS60 in my studio from 1985 until recently, so I'm fairly conversant with how the CS series sounds. Does it sound exactly like my old 2600? No. I have the four you're interested in the Minimoog and the Jupiter don't do that much for me.ĪRP 2600V- I'm a former 2600 owner, so I was intrigued by this when it first came out. Like I said, I certainly do miss them sometimes though. I don't think they're bad enough to avoid their products, but with all the options I just ended up focusing on other things. So stuff like that somewhat makes you lose trust. And they'd do things like claim that cpu usage was reduced in their V2 of their synths when in fact they fixed a bug which made cpu go absolutely wild in some cases, but in general actually increased cpu use. They seemed to drag their feet a bit with some bug fixing, and nowhere near as responsive as many other devs or companies out there (although they do have friendly enough sales guys). I will say that some things irritated me about Arturia as a company. Of course it doesn't sound exactly like the Aturia synths, but I find it's one of the closest out there (I personally like the sound even better most times). It's like it combines the best of all the vintage synth features. And with Poly-Ana, I find it has so much flexibility that rather decide if I want to open the Prophet or Moog or Arp, I know I can do so much Analog goodness with just it. Ya, you're right that the vintage tones are sample based in Omni, but when I want that true moog type character I can usually find something close enough in it, sampled from a moog.
